An Adopted Cowboy Academic with Mark Lafave
Mark is an Athletic Therapist and professor of Athletic Therapy at Mount Royal University. Mark’s passion for athletic therapy and injury rehabilitation began during his undergraduate degree in Physical Education and Master’s Degree in Science at the University of Manitoba. During this time, Mark worked primarily with varsity football and hockey. After graduation, he worked as an athletic therapist for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and in private practice at the Pan Am Sports Medicine Clinic. In 1994, Mark came to Alberta and served as the head athletic therapist for Mount Royal University helping to create Mount Royal’s Wellness Centre, and then continuing, to a faculty role and athletic therapy program coordinator in 1998. In 1994, Mark also began working for the Canadian Professional Rodeo Sports Medicine Team and has worked for the team for over 25 years, serving as its president from 2007-2014. - Dec. Mark and his research colleagues have collaboratively presented over 100 research presentations at national and international sports medicine and education-related conferences. Mark has served in numerous roles with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association including serving as President in 2002. He has been the recipient of a number of awards of recognition during his career and was most recently inducted into the CATA Hall of Fame. Most importantly, Mark has been married to the love of his life Lynne for over 30 years, and he is the father of three amazing grown-up women who is most proud of.
